As a small business, it means a lot when you buy from us, or share our content with your family/friends/colleagues in your networks such as your social media platforms. It’s a great way to share the small brands you love, allowing others to discover new brands and products that they might like too. Now more than ever, small businesses like ours are relying on your support to make it through these challenging times.
Here’s 5 ways you can show your support for small businesses:
1. Follow them on social media
Giving a small business a follow isn’t just about increasing their follower count (that growth does help though!) but it means that you’ll see more of their posts in the future. It lets the algorithms know that you’re not just looking at their content as a one off, but you like what you see and want to see more of it. It then helps the small business in the algorithm, meaning that more accounts like yours will get to see their posts.
2.Tell friends and family
They might be interested in what the small business is selling, and hearing about it from you makes all the difference. Small businesses don’t have the budgets to reach wider networks, so sharing them through yours is really helpful. Is a friend or family member looking for a gift for someone? Recommend the small business! For example, share the brand on your WhatsApp groups, or share the small business’s posts to your Instagram Stories to let others know about their products.
3. Engage with their social media posts
This is so important. The algorithm helps accounts that get good engagement, so liking a post is a good start but extra brownie points to you for liking AND commenting on a small businesses post! The next step is to share posts on your Stories from time to time and sending the business a DM – both of those help too!
4. Give them a shoutout
Could you shoutout the small business on your Facebook or Instagram account feed or mention them on your Stories? Tell your people, it makes such a big difference to a small business.
5. Sign up to their newsletter
If you’re genuinely interested in a product that a small business has to offer, sign up to their email list. Small businesses are always growing their email lists as it’s really the most cost-effective way for us to keep in touch with you. At STORY 81, we get to tell you about what’s coming up, and you don’t have to rely on solely seeing us in your social media feeds. Bonus points for forwarding the email to friends and family who might be interested.
Are you on our email list? If not, sign up here and you’ll also get 10% off your first purchase.
